Event details

The goal of a community developmental screening event is to give parents another opportunity to discuss their child's development with trained staff, share fun activities for parents and children to do together, and connect families to community resources.

During an event, families check in and fill out a simple survey about their child’s development, called the Ages and Stages Questionnaire®, Third Edition (ASQ-3™). Families are then introduced to a trained staff member who completes, reviews and scores the ASQ-3. Staff can then answer any additional questions the family may have.

“Early diagnosis of developmental problems is crucial for providing the opportunity to intervene at a time when the brain is still developing rapidly. By catching things early, the interventions can be the most effective to bring children closer to their typically developing peers. Having a standardized approach to early childhood screening allows everyone to be on the same page – public health, home visitors, the Birth-to-Three program, Head Start, educators and healthcare providers. The screening tools used by the Sheboygan County Community Partnership for Children matches those endorsed by pediatricians and by several state agencies, including the Departments of Health Services, Children and Families, and Public Instruction.”
